Thursday March 2, 2017-A Crazy Day at the Watch

Leader:
Hal assisted by Rose and Don Wallace

Migration:
Swainson's Hawks-79
Turkey Vultures-36
Red-shouldered Hawk-1
Also observed a White-tailed Kite not migrating

Discussion:
At 8am I discovered a Swainson's Hawk across from the alternate watch site. At 8:30A hawks began to appear near the Date Farm and Ellis Farm. Small kettles formed throughout the morning. At 9:30A a call from Steve indicated a large kettle of mixed hawks (SW's and TV's) at 78 and Borrego Springs Rd. It took them an hour to make it to the watch area. We counted several hawks and vultures moving toward Palm Canyon.

Evening Watch:
No report this evening so probably no migration into town
