Hiding Swainson's Today March 6, 2013

Migration Today:
Swainson's Hawks-31
Turkey Vultures-16

Discussion:
A strange weather day with very windy conditions to the east and calm to the west. We couldn't find the roosting hawks until they began to lift off at 8:30A. The 31 Swainson's roosted at the Date Farm. We did happen upon a lone SW on Di Giorgio Rd. Judy Davis had a nice shot and I took one (we were mooned and****, just before take off). There are some wildflowers near the path to the day hawkwatch site. A possible Merlin was observed near the hawk watch along with a Cooper's Hawk, Red-tailed Hawk and Kestrel.

Evening Watch:
Around 35-45 Swainson's came in and landed late at the Date Farm on the north side. Additionally 11 TV's came into the same area.

Prediction:
High winds are predicted for tomorrow. It is possible that all the SW's and TV's will leave at first light. Expect 35-40 Swainson's to kettle up along with TV's. Hopefully we will be spared the wind however forecasts suggest a windy day.
