A Wonderful Migration Day-486 Swainson's Hawks-March 14, 2014

Leader:
Wes, assisted by Steve, Rose, Pam and Hal

Migration Today:
Swainson's Hawks-486
Turkey Vultures-19
Red-tailed Hawk-1

Discussion:
Clear sky with light NW breeze. Lift-off at 8:30A with two large kettles forming quickly. Both kettles merged while more hawks joined them. Eventually all of the hawks streamed north toward Coyote Canyon. The sky was filled with hawks.

Time to count the hawks. Check out the very short youtube's below.

Evening Watch:
We had a late arrival of around 140 Swainson's Hawks at 6:35P. They settled into the Date Farm.

Prediction:
Wind should be light in the morning. Lift-off between 8A-9A from the Date Farm. Best location for viewing is around Big Horn and DiGiorgio Rd. north of Palm Canyon Drive. Additionally, Steve Bier sighted some SW's and TV's on the move around 7P at Fish Creek.
Lift-off from Date Garden 3/14/14

Nice Kettle including SW's and TV's  3/14/14
Tried to make this into a Zone-tail Juvenile-But Red-tailed Hawk?
