ALERT-Hundreds of Swainson's in the Date Farm This Evening-Thursday March 13, 2014

Leader:
Herb assisted by Judy, Rose, Wes, Hal

Visitors From:
San Diego, Sacramento, Seattle and Carlsbad

Migration Today:
Swainson's Hawks-31

Discussion:
Temperature range from 50's-80's with little wind which stalled migration. Full cloud cover broke up to only 30% by watch's end. Lift-off from the Date Farm at 9:29A however the SW's settled down again along near the Date Farm. They took off again settling along Henderson Canyon Road before departing the valley.

Evening Watch:
As I write this blog there are hundreds of Swainson's descending into the Date Farm. Estimates as high as 650! Also lots of Turkey Vultures. Check out the movie this evening at:

Prediction:
Wind tomorrow should be light so lift-off between 8:45 and 9:30A. We will be out early just in case the wind picks up. Best viewing form DiGiorgio Rd about 1.25 miles north of Palm Canyon Drive. Look for parked cars and watch out for soft sand.
